Clientele

Gulp. This article was interesting.

The headline “GOP attacks McDonald on crime lawyer past” was a little harsh by the AP. We’ll see if the Montana newspapers use the same one.

I would not consider this an attack by the Montana Republican Party, but that’s just me. They, along with their national leadership, have not exactly been getting tons of people elected recently, so maybe a beep or two on the old heart monitor is considered a political attack by the media nowadays.

Pointing out someone’s occupation, their former clients, a client’s history (no matter how terrible), and that they hung out together, and he helped secure a book deal for him, and took trips together, does not seem too attacking to me.

Besides, most of it appears to be true (and maybe harmful if you are planning on running for public office).

When you crawl into the political sandbox, you may get sand kicked into your eyes.

Maybe the big official announcement should wait until the polling comes back?

About Face

A few days ago, most veterans and several organizations that represent veterans were alarmed to hear that the Obama Administration was making plans to have private insurance companies pay for injured veterans’ healthcare.

As a veteran, I was more than a little stunned.

The veteran’s organizations united. They met with Obama’s people. The Obama Administration did an about face. Smart move.

Sure, I would like to see VA healthcare revamped some. I would like to see veterans who have service-connected disabilities be given free health care at the closest healthcare facility, be it VA or private. No traveling to Denver from Montana to see a specialist or driving 200 miles to a VA hospital. Just issue them an ID card and they go to the closest place and everything is free. They earned it. The same could be done for military retirees.

Literally tons of money is spent for construction of VA facilities and, yes, some are needed. Someone, somewhere, in the bureaucracy of the federal government must have thought that it might just be cheaper to have veterans go to their local private hospital or clinic down the street instead of driving across the state to a VA hospital and clinic.

But having veterans with service-connected disabilities use private insurance was a slap in the face to those of us who served. It was not a good start for the Obama Administration to let this proposal out of the bag before it was vetted.

Veterans will need to pay close attention and be at the ready in case there are more silly plans on the drawing board.

Blame

I've been a little busy recently, but have been watching the events happening in our country, reading the blogs, but not doing much writing.

It got me thinking; with all that is happening in our country, when will the current President stop blaming the former President for everything?

Three months?

Six months?

One Year?

Two years?

Four years?

Forever?

Although we are 55 days into the current administration, sooner or later the blame game will grow old with the American people. We don’t like whiners. You can't say, "I inherited XXXX" for very long, one would think.

The Democrats control the White House, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House, so as I have said before, the ball is in their court.

One thing that is cool again is earmarks. It’s hilariously funny to me how a candidate’s views about earmarks changes in a couple of years after they are elected.

But in the end, we, the voters, will decide if we like the new leadership in 2010 and 2012.
