Today we find that Barack Obama’s aunt is living illegally in the United States. We find that she illegally donated to his campaign and that she may be living illegally in public housing. She also attended Obama’s swearing in ceremony at the U.S. Senate back in 2004. It’s unknown if she was illegally here at that time.
Obama claims he did not know.
The journalist who discovered this information worked for the London Times. Many folks believe the American media has been in the tank for Obama – virtually ignoring anything that might cast him negatively. Obama is destined to become President and they will not let anything derail his destiny.
It was also a foreign newspaper reporter who discovered Obama’s half-brother was living on three cents a day in Kenya. I am sure glad that someone somewhere is playing the part of journalist these days.
If this would have been John McCain, we’d be seeing this as the lead story on many networks.
As we approach Election Day 2008, voters may wonder what else we may find out about Barack Obama, his friends, and his family. They should.

Donor Pleads Guilty
According to the Associated Press, “The Obama campaign and a Democratic U.S. senator from Montana say they are giving to charity money they received from a Big Arm man who pleaded guilty to felony charges following a federal corruption probe in Alaska.”
The Democratic U.S. Senator from Montana is Jon Tester.
According to this story, “William C. Weimar, 68, was convicted in August of illegally funneling money to a political consultant for an Alaska state Senate candidate in the 2004 primary…” He will be sentenced November 12.
The AP reported, “…Weimar gave $2,100 to the campaign of U.S. Sen. Jon Tester in 2006, and $250 each to the congressional campaigns of Democrats Monica Lindeen in 2006 and Jim Hunt in 2008.”
Lindeen is currently running for Montana State Auditor.
I guess a good question for the reporter to ask of those who received donations would have been, “Did you do any special favors for Mr. Weimar?”
It’s also interesting to me that Weimar was convicted in August and the money he donated has not been donated yet. Of course, they say they “plan on” donating it. We’ll be watching.
Surprisingly, nobody claims to have ever met Mr. Weimar.

Guns, Taxes, Economy, and Coffee
According to a new Rasmussen Reports national survey, “Nearly two-thirds of U.S. voters (63%) say Barack Obama is more likely than John McCain to restrict an individual’s right to own a gun.”
Also according to Rasmussen, McCain is now trusted more on taxes and the economy than Obama.
But, according to the 7-11 Coffee Cup election results (7-Election 08) Obama is leading McCain 60-40. Montana does not have a 7-11 store (according to their website).

Other Endorsements
This has been an exciting election season. The Western Word will be staying up late on Tuesday night to watch all the returns. Yes, I will be Blogging and Twittering (JacktheBlogger) throughout the night.
There are a few other people that I am pulling for this election season. These people I know personally and know they will do a great job if elected.
Up in the Havre and Chinook area Wendy Warburton is a candidate for House District 34. I’ve known Wendy for several years. She is a hard worker and grew up on a ranch south of Chinook. She’s young and will bring a lot of energy to Helena. Remember the mess during the last legislative session? We need some new people in Helena and Wendy will be a great addition. You can visit her website HERE. If you are a voter in HD 34, please give Wendy Warburton your vote!
Larry Anderson is from Missoula and is currently serving as Missoula County Commissioner. Larry is completing the term of Barbara Evans and running for a full term. Larry graduated from the University of Montana and he has a Master’s in Business Administration. He was the administrator for the city of Missoula and also served on the city council. He was also a private business owner. Larry is a veteran of the Vietnam War. You can visit his website HERE. If you are a voter in Missoula County, please give Larry your support!
Jim Whitaker is running for Senate District 10, which is in the Great Falls area. It is an open seat. Jim has lived his entire life in Cascade County, except for when he served in the United States Army for three years. Jim served a term in the Montana House in 2001, so he has the experience to hit the ground running in Helena. Jim understands small business and he wants to give more money back to the taxpayers and develop our natural resources. The folks in SD 10 can do themselves a favor by voting for Jim Whitaker!
Like I said, it’s been a very exciting political season! I salute all those who threw their hat into the political ring. That’s what makes this country great.

This Scares Me
The one thing that really bothers me about Barack Obama is his friends. There’s just so much we don’t know, like how close he is to some of these people who hate America. The friends Obama keeps tells us a lot about his judgment.
Here is some more information out there about one of Obama’s friends:

Getting Their Hands Slapped, AGAIN
When the Montana media refuses to run a campaign advertisement from the Montana Democratic Party, you know it must be pretty disgusting or untruthful.
According to this story, Montana TV stations refused to run a campaign ad from the Montana Democratic Party attacking Tim Fox because it was untruthful. Fox is running for Montana Attorney General. The Western Word endorsed Tim Fox.
It’s nice to see someone’s watching over playground when the Democrats are out for recess. Don’t the Democrats have to pull an ad or two about every election cycle here in Montana? It sure seems so.

President 2008 Montana: McCain by 4
With five days left in the election, the latest Rasmussen polling in Montana for President (released today) finds John McCain ahead of Barack Obama 50-46.
An earlier NBC/Mason-Dixon poll conducted 10/23 - 10/25, showed McCain had a 4 point lead, also.

The Bond Issue
Folks in Great Falls and Cascade County have a chance to protect the area outside the base runway at Malmstrom AFB by passing a bond issue.
Basically, the vote will give the Cascade County Commission permission to sell up to $3.265 million in General Obligation Bonds to be used to purchase real property rights around the outside of Malmstrom AFB in the area called the Accident Potential Zone (APZ). By purchasing these real property rights, this will help prevent development in the area on the land leading up to and around (the approach) to the runway. By keeping it wide open and undeveloped, the runway will look more enticing for future missions. Encroachment is a big issue around several military installations. It’s a safety issue.
I say, vote YES.
The economic impact of Malmstrom AFB to the Great Falls area is tremendous. While I am a firm believer that the economic impact to a community is not a valid reason to keep a military base open, I strongly believe protecting the area outside the runway from development will help save the runway for future use, be it military, civilian, or for some other government agency. Plus, it sends a signal to the Department of Defense that Great Falls and Cascade County will do what it takes to obtain another mission.
With one-quarter of the missile mission recently removed, and with the future of the base as a missile wing and obtaining future missions in question due to the lack of Congressional clout, I believe Malmstrom backers need to be looking into the future and outside the box for missions from aerospace companies, other governments agencies, and the civilian sector to fill the void if/when the remaining missiles are decommissioned and if the base is permanently closed.
The supporters of the bond issue called, “Citizens Protecting Our Runway” have a website for further information. Listed on the website are many organizations that support the bond. In the past, Malmstrom supporters have taken several different approaches to protect the future of Montana’s only active Air Force Base. I applaud the action of this group and it’s good to see the different organizations and people within these organizations unified.

President 2008
This has been an exciting election season. I am pleased to be able to write about it here at The Western Word. Thanks for reading.
The two candidates who are facing each other were really not expected to be in this position. The process of electing a President in the United States has become so long and drawn out that I believe, for it to survive, we need to change the rules some to shorten the campaign season. Hundreds of millions are being spent for these elections. It seems a little ridiculous.
Looking back at campaign season 2008, I can honestly say that I did not believe the reporting and the journalism could get much lower than it did in 2006, but 2008 is even worse, even here in Montana. Is real journalism dead when it comes to reporting on candidates and political races? I think so.
My choice for President of the United States is John McCain. I proudly cast my vote for him a few days ago. I’ve had his banner ad displayed proudly here at The Western Word for the last few months, so this is not a shocker. I’ve not always agreed with John McCain on everything, but for me he is far and above the type of person we need running this country. I list several key reasons below.
Barack Obama has shown me that the change he’s for is whichever way the poll numbers show him to go. I don’t like his judgment, his past relationships, or his spread the wealth plan. I don’t believe Obama respects my fellow veterans and the current patriots serving in the military. His liberal views turn me off. He acts like an elitist and he is, by far, the most liberal candidate ever to run for this office.
With that being said, here are some of my reasons for supporting John McCain and not supporting Barack Obama:
NATIONAL SECURITY
Our security is one of the most important jobs as President. As a former member of the military, there’s hardly any other person who can do a better job at keeping us secure than a veteran who has fought in a war and knows what it is like if our security is allowed to take a back seat. There’s already talk from the Democrats of cutting military spending 25%. That cannot happen. Then Joe Biden told us, “Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."
As a Nation, can we afford to see if Obama can pass this test?
SAFETY
We are a safer country than we were after 9-11. Thanks go to George W. Bush for that. Sadly, there are still those around the world who want to harm us. Another attack on another day will require strong leadership that has been tested. Frankly, Hillary Clinton got it right when she ran the 3:00 a.m. campaign ad saying she was better qualified to lead during a time of crisis than Barack Obama. John McCain is even a better choice.
Telling folks that he would sit down with leaders of rogue nations with no preconditions showed that Obama is just not mature enough on world issues to be the Commander in Chief.
FREEDOM
Nobody understands Freedom better than a veteran – especially a veteran who paid the price of being held as a POW for over five years.
Nothing. Let me repeat that –NOTHING Barack Obama has ever done for his community, his state, or his country can compare to what John McCain has done for his. Obama can never understand what freedom means more than John McCain, and McCain will never let our freedoms be taken from us.
SECOND AMENDMENT
I love my guns. It’s not that I am a Rambo or even an avid hunter, but I know they are there in my closet if I need them and, as long as I obey the laws, they won’t be taken from me. There’s doubt if Obama is President. Folks like Max Baucus, Jon Tester and Brian Schweitzer must be smoking something to say that our guns are safe with Obama as President. Obama has a record on gun ownership that should bother people who believe in the second amendment. McCain has a much better record.
JUDGMENT
It is perfectly fine to judge a Presidential candidate on the company he or she keeps. Barack Obama attended church and listened to his pastor preach hate. He did this for 20 years. At first Obama would not disown his pastor and spiritual advisor, but as time passed and the polls changed, Obama finally did renounce his pastor. A real man and a leader would not have allowed his family to be subjected to this hatred for 20 years; he would have packed up and moved on to another church. That is, of course, unless he believed it.
There are a number of other questionable relationships that show the very poor judgment of Barack Obama. People like Bills Ayers and his wife, Tony Rezko, etc. Recently we’ve heard hints of Barack Obama praising Palestinian activist Rashid Khalidi. The LA Times is protecting Obama from this latest information, by not releasing a video tape of a banquet that Obama attended for Khalidi at which the United States was harshly criticized for its support of Israel. The LA Times endorsed Obama. Obama’s judgment is sorely lacking. Who knows what else we may discover down the road.
DISHONESTY
Barack Obama will spend more than any other candidate for President of the United States to try and win this election. At first, he agreed to public financing. Then he changed his mind. In other words, he lied. Winning was more important than keeping his word. That told me a lot about Obama.
As CBS News reported, Obama’s “…gotten more money than anyone in history from unidentified donors with names like 'Doodad' who lists his employer as 'Loving,' and has given more than $17,000, way over federal limits."
SPREADING THE WEALTH
Obama wants to take (tax) hard-earned money from the people in this country who are doing well and give it to folks who are not doing as well. This breeds mediocrity. Why do well when an Obama administration will take it from you?
SPENDING
John McCain has long been known for his resentment toward the earmark process. Obama does not have this record. McCain has and will fight against the runaway earmarking process. As President, he will have the power to veto these bills and bring spending under control. McCain has a strong record of working with both sides of the aisle to bring change. In the past, we’ve witnessed his own party show their anger toward him when he fought for what was right. McCain is more independent than Obama.
To wrap this up, it’s almost always said every four years, but this really is a very important election for the United States. In two short years, we’ve seen the damage that has been done with the Democrats in charge of the House and Senate. If Obama is elected President, there will be no check or balance for the Democrats’ agenda. Can we afford a weaker military? Can we afford another housing crisis? Can we afford more spending? Can we afford another attack? Can we afford to surrender in the war on terrorism?
Many folks believed the Democrats in 2006 when they said they would change the way Washington operates. They changed it for the worse. Spending has increased, the unemployment rate has gone up, and there were no reforms on earmarks. Gas was $4.00 a gallon. Airfares went up 200% on some routes. We won’t be able to afford four years with the Democrats having free reign under an Obama administration.
Vote for your Freedom. Vote for your Security. Vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Montana Governor 2008
In thinking about the 2008 race for Montana’s Governor, there’s a heck of a lot I could write about. I’ll try to keep it relatively short.
I’ve been no fan of Brian Schweitzer since the day he appeared on the public’s radar screen in 1999. That’s when he used senior citizens as campaign tools, busing them to Canada for their prescription drugs. He was running for U.S. Senate. He lost to Conrad Burns.
Schweitzer loves stunts. He loves attention. Schweitzer reminds me of the salesman on TV named Billy Mays. Billy sells everything from health insurance to mighty putty, and so does Schweitzer.
We discovered this year that Schweitzer had broken the state law that said candidates could not do public service announcements after they file for office.
That was strike one. He had signed the bill into law. He should have known better.
After losing to Burns in 2000, he was left with such a bad taste in his mouth, that Schweitzer publicly bragged about turning some dials (tampered with the election) to help his good friend, Jon Tester defeat Conrad Burns in 2006.
That was strike two. Voting is a sacred right we have in this country. Standing up in front of folks making fun of the state you represent, and telling them you turned some dials to help your friend win was classless.
It might have even been criminal, but we’ll never know the facts because the Democrat holding the Montana Attorney General’s seat would not investigate Schweitzer.
That was strike three. Besides retiring him to the bench, I would thrown him out of the game, much like Mike Singletary did to his player after the player committed a personal foul on Sunday.
Folks may be enamored with Schweitzer, but as I have told many folks, there’s more to his story than just a folksy, back-slapping fellow with a dog.
If Schweitzer is allowed to continue for the next four years, it’s hard telling what we may find and what he may do. With the amount of out-of-state money Schweitzer has taken, we can see that Montana is not in the forefront. The top four cities he’s received money from are New York City, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and San Francisco. He’s also taken a big chunk in donations from lobbyists. Although he swears he takes no Political Action Committee (PAC) money, it’s very easy for members of a PAC to write personal checks directly to his campaign.
On the other side, Roy Brown is calm and cool. He is a statesman. We wouldn’t see Brown make speeches about tampering with elections. We wouldn’t see Brown use state funds and personnel to do illegal public service announcements. We wouldn’t see Brown bully people.
Roy Brown has called Schweitzer a bully and says that Schweitzer takes credit for everything, including the sunrise. I believe on both counts Schweitzer is guilty.
One of the more interesting things that was done during this campaign was the creation of a website called, “Brian the Bully.” You can read some of Schweitzer’s bullying tactics HERE. People seem to be afraid of publicly going against the Governor because of the payback they may suffer. There’s no need to live in fear, you can vote him out folks.
When you are taking on an incumbent, you have a tough road to travel. This is the task of Roy Brown. I agree with Brown’s view of keeping spending under control, tax breaks, and I believe we will see more energy development if he is the Governor. The final answer to our energy problems is not just blowing in the wind. We need more energy solutions. If Roy Brown is elected, I think we’ll catch up with Wyoming and the Dakotas on energy development. That would help our economy, our schools, our teachers, and lower our taxes. I like that. I like Roy Brown in this election.

Reaching the Point
It was really no surprise when I read this Associated Press story that Max Baucus is getting most of his donations from outside Montana:
While 83 percent of the Baucus's larger campaign donations came from out of state when he was last re-elected in 2002, 90 percent now come from out of state, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Baucus has raised a total of more than $11.5 million for his re-election this year.
This is a record which he should be proud. We can call him 90/10 Max. 90% for out of state interests, 10% for Montana.
While reading the article, I found the most interesting part of the story was when Baucus was asked if the money he gets in donations has anything to do with his votes. He replied,
"You get to the point where you just do what's right," said Baucus, a 30-year veteran of the Senate.
The next question should have been, “When did you reach the point that you decided to do what was right, senator? 30 years ago? 20 years ago? 10? When you filed for re-election this time?
And Montana keeps sending him back there time after time…

No Barney, NO
Planning for a major victory on November 4, Barney Frank has already decided that our nation’s military spending can be cut 25%.
Ouch. Although there’s a lot less military and defense spending in Montana the last two years, 25% less would harm a lot of projects happening at Montana State University, the University of Montana, as well as in Butte. This is not to mention the future phases of Weapons Storage Area at Malmstrom and other worthwhile projects with the Army and Air Guard.
Barney, Barney, BARNEY! Leave the military spending to someone who knows a little bit about the military, please!

Temporary Residents
Interesting story…
Thirteen campaign workers for Barack Obama yesterday yanked their voter registrations and ballots in Ohio after being warned by a prosecutor that temporary residents can't vote in the battleground state.
One has to wonder if Montana has any of these “temporary” residents.
According to this story and this story, Obama has 40 paid staffers in Montana.
