Friday’s Potpourri
New Website:
Brian the Bully. Now citizens can anonymously report bullying from Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer. I hope they have the server capacity!
October Politics:
Shoring up his votes in the Great Falls area, U.S. Senator Max Baucus and his side-kick, Jon Tester, asked the Air Force to add Malmstrom Air Force Base to the list of possible sites for a new command center to oversee the nation's nuclear arsenal.
Maybe they should have asked them not to take 50 missiles? How about delivering something to Malmstrom, instead of just asking?
Counsel or Counselor:
It seems the Governor’s employee, Eric Stern, is not licensed to practice law in Montana. The Billings Gazette reports, “But Stern said he wasn't doing much legal work and concluded that he didn't need to take the three-day test.”
So, would a person need a law license even if “he wasn’t doing much legal work”? Is that like being a “little pregnant”?
Travels with Jon:
Montana Senator Jon Tester is campaigning for Barack Obama in Reno, Nevada. I hope he watches out for the folks from Reno 911. I hear they are suffering from some funding problems, too.
I also enjoyed reading the fundraising e-mail from Senator Tester asking me to donate to comedian Al Franken. Tester writes, “Folks, I know Al Franken, and I know he's exactly the breath of fresh air Washington needs. But what he needs -- what we all need to get him elected -- is you.”
Maybe Jon should have watched THIS.

Max in Trouble
Max Baucus was cruising along to a win in the general election, when all of a sudden he voted against 90% of Montanans when he voted for the $700+ billion bailout bill. The bill was also loaded down with pork.
After the bailout vote, one company (AIG) that received the money Max voted for took a retreat at a resort and received spa treatments for a cool $440,000. Taxpayers now own about 80% of that company. I’m looking forward to my spa treatment.
Wonderful work, Max and friends. Now Baucus is getting his head handed to him in the letters to the editor section of most newspapers.
For example:
“Tester, Rehberg did right thing; Baucus blew it”
“Baucus didn't follow will of his constituents”
The comments associated with these letters on the Billings Gazette website show Montanans are outraged with Baucus for his vote against Montanans.
Feeling there was trouble brewing with his vote (weeks late), Max sent the newspapers his opinion on the bailout. Ouch! More and more comments below the opinion show that Max Baucus was out of touch with the constituents he’s counting on to send him back to DC for another six years.
To change the subject, Max has more commercials on television and radio than he probably planned to have. That’s good for conservative candidates, because Max has to spend a little more money on his race than he planned, and that prevents him from spending it on “Suzy Democrat in House District XX.”
One veteran’s commercial angers me. Max takes credit for all things good for veterans and has four or five veterans vouching for him. One thing Max has never answered is where was he when the Vietnam era draft was going on? Did he do a Biden?
The Montana GOP has to be kicking themselves in the butt for not providing a strong candidate to take on Max Baucus. They should be. Max is weakened. It’s been proven that his party blocked regulation of these companies – these companies ran wild and Max received the most campaign contributions of any Montana politician for his work for them.
The chances of Bob Kelleher beating Max Baucus are still slim. Many Montanans feel that Max Baucus is a joke and they may just vote for Anybody But Max (ABM) to send that message. Stranger things have happened.

Breaking the Law, again
It seems that every two years the Montana Democrats record phone messages and place automated phone calls for their candidates across our state. It is against the law, but nobody will do anything about it.
According to an article in today’s Great Falls Tribune, the Montana Democrats are breaking Montana’s automated telephone call law again this election cycle. In an “in your face” attitude, they admitted doing it.
The Tribune pointed out that Lewis and Clark County Attorney, Leo Gallagher (a Democrat), admits he has received several complaints over the last eight years about these calls, but he has done nothing.
No wonder the calls continue.
These types of calls are illegal under state law, and the violators can be fined up to $2,500. If a couple candidates were prosecuted and fined $2500, they would stop these calls very quickly.
Sadly it does not look like we can find anyone in authority willing to take the time to prosecute the offenders. If you get one of these calls, contact your county attorney and file a complaint. At least it will be reported. Then contact your local media and tell them your received an illegal pre-recorded phone campaign call and that you contacted the county attorney’s office to report it.
Back in 2005, both Jon Tester and John Morrison made pre-recorded phone calls to raise money for their campaigns. The Montana Attorney General, Mike McGrath, looked the other way as he recently did with the Schweitzer tampering issue, and now it appears he will look the other way on this incident. McGrath wants to be Chief Justice of the Montana Supreme Court. He hardly has the record of enforcing the law to get my vote.
So get ready, the Montana Democrats are going to chew up your cell phone minutes and interrupt your family time with these illegal phone calls. The elected members of their party who have the authority to prosecute these crimes are letting them slide. Montanans deserve better.

Open for "Business"
It was really no surprise to me that U.S. District Court Judge Donald Molloy slapped the Montana GOP for challenging a few voters. He issued a statement about the issue late Wednesday. There’s a hearing scheduled for October 14.
According to the Associated Press, Judge Molloy, “…issued a scathing criticism of Republican efforts to challenge the registrations of nearly 6,000 voters in Montana. The judge slammed the effort as "mischief" that targeted young Democrats and may have violated voter rights laws.”
Judge Molloy was born in Butte, where there were around 714 challenges by the Montana GOP. He was appointed to this position by President Bill Clinton back in 1995.
Like I mentioned in a previous post, there’s really nowhere for people to turn to ensure the elections are fair and the voters who are voting are legally able to vote. Nowhere. You can bet there won’t be any challenges to any possible voter fraud in Montana for the rest of this election cycle. Monica Ray can have her way.
So, let’s give a nice Big Sky hello and welcome to Obama and ACORN – Montana is open for your “business.”

Monica Ray
"Monica" recently registered to vote 10 times in Jackson County, (Independence) Missouri, reportedly by ACORN. There were more than 800 fraudulent voter registrations in the county. I wonder if Monica or her friends are registered in Montana?
Nasty
U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) showed a lot of class last night after the McCain/Obama debate. She is a top surrogate for the Obama team.
According to this story, McCaskill had just completed a interview on MSNBC and Mitt Romney was next. As she handed Romney the earpiece for the interview, she informed him she had spit on it.
McCaskill must belong to the NCAA – No Class At All.

Dropped
The Montana GOP dropped their voter registration challenge Tuesday night, mostly due to the outrage from the media and anger from the Democrats and their supporters.
Of course when one political party attempts to “challenge” a few voter addresses, the other party will use it to their advantage and cry “voter suppression.” The Montana Democrats and the Obama campaign here in Montana cried very loud. They won for now.
Yes, it would be the same if the Montana Democrats were doing a voter challenge, except the Montana media would lightly report it.
In my opinion, this was not a big thing that the Montana GOP was trying to do, except it was the Montana GOP doing it. The challenge snowballed into something it was not. Nobody on that list was being suppressed; all they had to do was fill out a form, get it notarized and return it. I’m sure their political party would have helped them. All in all it appeared to be legal, too.
Meanwhile, there are issues with voter fraud in about a dozen states so far. I wrote about a group with connections to Barack Obama called ACORN and their problems in Nevada yesterday. ACORN has registered about 1.3 million voters nationwide according to this article. The seized computers and boxes of documents in Nevada. Today I saw a story about voter fraud in Missouri where one person was recently registered under the same name about 15 times. Dead people are being registered in Indiana.
This is serious, folks. Sadly, there’s basically nowhere to turn. A political party will be attacked by the other political party if they challenge voters. Media organizations mostly lean to the left, so there’s little help there. Election officials belong to political parties, so many of these people won’t help, if it hurts their candidate. The judges are elected or appointed by politicians. There’s basically nobody to turn to, so our election process is in peril.

The Debate Round 2
The biggest thing I took from the debate tonight is that Tom Brokaw of NBC/MSNBC fame was not a very good moderator. He allowed the candidates to go over their time limit several times. He failed to "moderate."
If you were a McCain supporter before this debate, you still are. Same with Obama.
According to several news sources there were 80 questions from the audience and 20 of them were chosen by Tom Brokaw. There were six million questions submitted over the internet and six were chosen to be asked by Brokaw. So, all in all there were 26 questions for McCain and Obama – all chosen by Tom Brokaw.
There were 12 questions (by my count) from the audience in tonight’s Presidential debate. Brokaw had about eight follow-ups. Of course, everyone who follows politics realizes NBC/MSNBC is in the tank for Obama. He sends a shiver down their leg when he opens his mouth.
In my opinion, McCain just makes people feel safer. When he talks military and foreign relations, he is very far ahead of Obama. McCain is able to work with both sides of the aisle and has the history to prove it. Obama just does not have the experience to lead, and by most accounts, he's going to raise our taxes. The best answer he could have given to the last question, “What don’t you know?” would have been “very little about being a President.”
Several times Obama wanted to change the rules to get another word in, and finally wore his buddy Brokaw down and he gave him extra time.
With the democrats controlling the House and the Senate now, we’ve seen a glimpse of their leadership: Highest fuel prices in history, the Dow dropping below 10,000 for the first time four years, the Fannie and Freddie mess Dodd and Frank and the Democratic leadership failed to act on, lack of support for our troops during the war, no promised reforms on earmarks, and the lowest approval ratings in congressional history. The Democrats will probably control the House and Senate in 2009-2010. Our country needs McCain to keep the Democrats in check to prevent future messes.

Watch Out for Cowboys!
It appears there may be some voter fraud in Nevada by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). You can read the AP article HERE.
One article said people were registered under false names, false addresses, and even under the names of former Dallas Cowboys football players.
Hmmm. Barack Obama has ties to ACORN and Tony Rezko and William Ayers...
Someone better check those new registrations in Montana and see if we have some former Dallas Cowboys residing here.

Talking?
It looks like Barack Obama’s friend, Tony Rezko, may be talking to Federal prosecutors about what he knows concerning corruption in Illinois – the home of Barack Obama. The Feds have asked for a delay in his sentencing.
Obama might be getting a little worried about what his good friend might tell the Feds to save his butt from a long sentence.
Tony Rezko and Barack Obama go way back in the Illinois political scene. Rezko donated several times to Obama’s campaign and has hosted fundraisers for Obama. Of course, there was a sweet land deal for Obama, too.
We’ll see how far this goes…and how much Rezko is willing to tell the Feds to help himself.

Preventing Voter Fraud
The Montana Republican Party is taking some hits across the state for challenging a few voters (just 1.5% of the total registered) who have moved to a different location since the last election.
This has so concerned the Democrats that Barack Obama’s campaign has gotten involved, assisting in filing a lawsuit in Federal Court, claiming it is a voter suppression scheme. The verification process was shut down while they wait for the ruling. Their mission was partly accomplished.
The Democratic Party’s favorite spokesman (but just on issues involving the Montana GOP), Lt. Governor John Bohlinger (a Republican) has written an opinion that is appearing in newspapers across the state. I totally respect Lt. Governor John Bohlinger, but his comments detract from the real reason for these challenges. His opinion in the Billings Gazette was entitled, “Montana wins when everyone votes.” I agree, but would add that Montana wins when everyone legally eligible to vote, votes.
We’ve all heard stories about the free food for registering and voting, free alcohol for registering and voting, and free gift cards for registering and voting. This stuff does happen. Even if it is reported, it is long after an election when a ruling is made, so why stop it.
The Billings Gazette issued a “Gazette Opinion: GOP tries to reduce voter turnout” in which the title is so far off the mark, it’s laughable.
The Gazette Editorial Board writes, “Those who receive the challenge letters initiated by the GOP ought to make a point of voting. We suggest that they encourage their friends, family and neighbors to vote, too.”
What the Gazette says is correct, but they failed to mention these people should be “legally” able to vote. I am sure the Gazette would like to see a fair and legal election.
The Democrats again used military personnel and veterans as pawns in trying to turn the public opinion against Republicans. When I was in the military, I received a couple of these verification forms. No big deal. I filled it out, sent it in and received my ballot. I did not contact my political party to complain or to get my name in the newspaper.
We’ve heard from election officials from counties across the state who are complaining about having to send out verification letters. It’s so much MORE work. Maybe they should ask their legislator to introduce a bill to stop allowing people to register and vote at their county elections office on Election Day. This undoubtedly would help reduce their stress. Some of their partisan comments makes me wonder about our election process.
The bottom line to all this is Montana has a Governor, Brian Schweitzer, who bragged about how he tampered with the last state-wide election and turned some dials to help his friend, Jon Tester, win the U.S. Senate race. When a leader of the opposite political party is so stupid to brag publicly about what he illegally did, then if I am running the other political party, I am going to do all I legally can to ensure a fair election. Verifying that voters are still eligible to vote is just one small (legal) step in the process.
If the shoe was on the other foot, the Democrats would be doing the same thing.

Troops back McCain
This is really not a big surprise. The troops want a Commander in Chief who understands the military and national security. Overall they back McCain 68% to 23% according to a Military Times poll.
I understand the concerns of military members if Obama becomes President. I joined the military when Reagan was elected President and got out when I saw how Clinton was treating the military.
When asked which of the candidates would do a better job as president handling military personnel issues, such as pay and benefits, McCain leads Obama 73% to 18%.
When asked which of the candidates would do a better job as president handling Defense Department issues, such as weapons purchases, the size of the armed forces and national security strategy, McCain leads Obama 77% to 15%.
Here’s the chart that breaks down the poll.
